how othello impacted the world, culture, and the literature of today
The play Othello written by William Shakespeare has had a strong impact on the world that we live in today.
world
In Othello Shakespeare challenges viewers with the fact that the Moor, Othello, is a three dimensional characters not just the archetype of a Moor. With Iago, a white European, out for revenge the audience can see that evil can come in any color as Iago plays with the trust between Othello and Desdemona.
With this structure Shakespeare sets up stereotypes only to prove them wrong and an incomplete view of a person. In today's world depictions of the stereotypical image of a race are no longer tolerated or seen in mainstream media.

culture
There's a popular board game called Othello. In the game there are two sets of pieces, black and white. The whole point of the game is to outflank your opponent, the person with more of their color at the end of the game is the winner. It's thought that the game was renamed Othello due to the similarities of the conflict between the dark-Moor and the fair European in the play and the black and white pieces.

Literature
Unlike Aaron in Titus Andronicus who is portrayed as villainous, Othello is shown as heroic and well respected by his peers and the soldiers. Which was unique for a Moor character in the literature of the era.
Similar to the impact that Othello had on the world that we live in today, the literature that gets published today no longer contains stereotypical views on any one race, gender, or sexuality.
